Dear Parents and Students,
I am contacting you today to let you know
about an exciting opportunity that is coming up in my Language 9 and Language
11 classes this semester!
For the second year, I am participating as a
partner teacher in a program called International Leaders in Education Program
(ILEP) through Kent State University and IREX, a non-profit organization
sponsored by the United States State Department. In part, this program partners
experienced international teachers with American teachers so that they may
learn more about the American educational system and American education
methods. Because of the wonderful
experience we had last year with Ma’am Jil, my partner teacher from Papua,
Indonesia, I decided to once again participate in this wonderful program.
The international teachers visit their
partner schools one to three times each week from the end of January through
early April. While visiting, international
teachers will observe, share their culture, and possibly teach lessons under
the guidance and supervision of their American teacher. These visits are meant to provide meaningful
learning experiences both for the international teachers and the American
teachers and students they work with.
This year I will be working with Abir
Elkoumy, or Mrs. Abir, as the students will call her. Mrs. Abir comes to us from Egypt; she has
over 13 years of teaching experience and is currently working on a doctoral
degree. I have been in contact with Mrs. Abir since December, and I am so
excited for our students to meet and work with her this semester. I think this
will provide an invaluable opportunity for our students to learn about another
culture.
Please feel free to visit the Kent State University ILEP website at http://www.ksuilep.net/ if you would like to learn more about this program!
Thank
you for your time,
Mrs. Eaton
